How it works
One controlled route from role to signed statement.
Five steps, each recorded. The screenshots below are from the Workbench itself, using invented example data.
The role library
Common roles are assessed in advance and held in a role library, so every line manager starts from the same position.
- Each role carries a provisional lean, never a determination.
- Line managers pre-fill a new assessment from the library role.
- Every worker is still assessed individually.

The line manager assessment
A structured questionnaire covers substitution, control, mutuality of obligation and financial risk, with guidance where it matters.
- Questions grouped by the established status tests.
- Guidance notes where a question needs it.
- Space for evidence and notes against every answer.

The contractor's side
The contractor is invited by email to answer their part directly.
- The contractor signs in from their invitation email.
- They answer their part and can see their own status.
- They can view their statement once it is issued.

Review and sign-off
Clear cases go to your signatory for review and sign-off. Borderline cases can be escalated for expert review.
- Your signatory reads the full draft statement before signing.
- They can amend answers, return for more information, or refer to an internal reviewer.
- Borderline cases go to the review queue for expert review.

The Status Determination Statement
The signed Status Determination Statement is issued in your organisation's name and goes to all the relevant parties: the contractor, the agency or the fee-payer in the chain.
- Issued in your organisation's name.
- Sets out the determination and the reasons for it.
- Recorded against the worker with who signed it and when.
